ABSTRACT

In 2008 it was Peru's turn to host APEC, the organization for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation. APEC is a grouping of twenty-one economies in the Asia-Pacific region and numbers among its members such economic power-houses as the United States, China, Japan, Korea, Canada, Australia, and Russia. It currently accounts for over 40 percent of world trade and more than half of the world's GDP. Each year one of the member economies takes on the challenge of hosting several months of APEC committee meetings on a wide range of trade-related issues, culminating in the Leaders’ Meeting for the Presidents and Prime Ministers of all the members.
