ABSTRACT

The core of this chapter is based on a trip to Gaza we made in May 2007. One of the aims of the trip was to describe and analyse the role of the EU in providing human security to the people of Gaza. Since then, and in particular after the operation Cast Lead (27 December 2008-17 January 2009), human security has deteriorated to unprecedented levels. This chapter shows the shortcomings which were apparent in 2007 as a warning that a return to the status quo ante is not a recipe for a sufficient human security policy of the international community.
