ABSTRACT

In baseball, successful managers recognize the importance of each team member, from the star pitcher to the second-string infielder. They motivate their players to perform at their best by helping them to understand and value the unique role of each team member. Likewise, individual players must be able to function autonomously in their roles and work effectively as part of a team. The star pitcher cannot defend the entire playing field; he needs help when a ball is put into play. He must count on the outfielders communicating effectively with each other when a fly ball threatens to drop between them.
