ABSTRACT

Close to 70 years after his death, Mahatma Gandhi continues to evoke interest both in India and abroad. Gandhi is perhaps the most documented man in history, but it is difficult to describe Gandhi with any degree of precision. The charisma of Gandhi’s is Janus faced. People have understood Gandhi’s life and role in so many different ways both during his lifetime and after his death. The introduction maps out an objective assessment of Gandhi’s ideas and work, to draw upon his temporal and historical significance in the context of multiple challenges of our contemporary times. It purportedly contains the validation of the Gandhi’s central ideas of ‘Truth’ and ‘Non-Violence’ urgently required in the context of today. In the second section, the plan of the book is detailed out for the readers to unravel the philosophy and practice of Gandhi.
