ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore issues of inclusive education in Iceland, a Nordic country that emphasises Nordic welfare and education. The aim is to explore the path Iceland has taken towards inclusive school and education according to several milestones that have shaped the country’s path from 1974 until today. Literature and documents create the data for exploring the inclusive path in Iceland, and these will be analysed with a document analysis and literature review. Three types of data will be explored: (1) policy documents, such as education acts, national curricula and regulations; (2) selected previous research related to inclusion in Iceland; and (3) selected reports on inclusion in Iceland. The findings shed light on the inclusive path and milestones in Iceland from 1974 to 2017, as well as its current status and concerns.
