ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows that the most innovative practices and pedagogies for content strategy within the broader field of technical communication. It describes how to do content strategy in complex information environments. The book focuses on the challenges of editing content for reuse, particularly modular, global, and user-generated content. It examines how technical communication contexts employing content management and/or content strategy processes struggle with assessing usability because of a focus on complex software and processes. The book also describes best practices for teaching content strategy through a case study of a content strategy graduate seminar, where students developed a content strategy plan for a breast cancer support/survivor group. It provides a general discussion of how content strategy can be applied to online course settings and why content strategy should be used for online course/degree design and delivery.
