ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter summarises key aspects of the relationship between temporary transnational migration, migration policies and transformative processes, and analyses the developmental impact of migration on migrants and countries of origin and destination. Although national policy-makers acknowledge potentially positive impacts of temporary (and return) migration on national development which could be realised and enhanced through migration, such potentials do not always materialise in practice. The authors conclude that realisation of the developmental impacts requires more rigorous efforts to pursue positive effects of migration with careful planning and far-reaching management of migration policies.
