ABSTRACT

Strategies using positive and negative reinforcement to increase desired behavior and/or decrease undesired behavior will be presented. These strategies include differential reinforcement of incompatible, other, and alternate behaviors. Examples include behavior specific praise (acknowledgement of desired behavior that is contingent and immediate) and escape from nonpreferred tasks such as requesting a break or reducing task demands. The chapter describes use of the Class Pass Intervention to reduce the disruptive behavior of a Latinx elementary student. Discussion of culturally relevant intervention planning is provided.
