ABSTRACT

Time-out is a punishment procedure in which a student is denied access to a reinforcer for a defined period of time. Levels of time out will be presented (e.g., non-seclusion, exclusion, seclusion). An example describing the use of time-out to reduce the aggressive behavior of a preschool student with a speech-language delay is presented. Ethical decision-making related to the use of time-out procedures is discussed.
