ABSTRACT

In 1812 Crabb Robinson thought Wordsworth ‘the greatest man now living in this Country’ (HCR, Correspondence, I, p. 70), and his admiration never flagged. He became one of the most intimate friends of the poet and his family, a frequent travelling companion for Wordsworth, and a regular Christmas visitor to Rydal Mount. He knew about Wordsworth’s French daughter, and met both Annette Vallon and Caroline Baodouin when in France with Wordsworth.
