ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the significance of the tourist accommodation product and hospitality services consumed by tourists, focusing on the diversity of accommodation types and a number of current trends in the accommodation sector. Within the chapter, the scope and nature of tourist accommodation and hospitality services are explored as well as the key operational issues affecting the accommodation sector. The differences between serviced and non-serviced accommodation are outlined and the growing debate over the importance of environmental issues in the management of hotels is discussed.
