ABSTRACT

This chapter treats primarily the second part of the conference-title: “Adult education and the challenges of the 1990s”. The generation that is pulling the strings, has a lot of brain, a lot of institutions, a lot of computer systems, a lot of information and a lot of power but too little imagination and too little idealism. Inhabitants of every country want their government to establish an economic policy which will lead to a high state of welfare. The CE-scenario can only be evaluated by comparing it with the projections made by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Central Planning Office based on government policy. An official body was appointed by the Dutch Government to ensure adequate comparability of the respective scenarios, particularly with an eye to their employment in the ‘broad public debate’ on energy policy in the Netherlands.
