ABSTRACT

Bob Wallerstein paid his dues with his work on committees and task forces before becoming President of the Association in 1971. Robert Wallerstein's extraordinary contributions to the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) began early in his analytic career. Shortly after completing his psychoanalytic training, he helped initiate and develop a special category for psychoanalytic training for non-clinical research candidates. Many of Wallerstein's contributions to the APsaA have been institutionalized within the Association: Committee on Research and Special Training, Committee on Scientific Activities, the Fund for Psychoanalytic Research, Collaborative Analytic Multi-site Program (CAMP), and Research Associates of the American Psychoanalytic Association, and he has contributed not only his organizational and leadership skills, but also his intellect and his soul. Wallerstein organized the Collaborative Analytic Multi-site Program—or "CAMP"—which has continued to provide a forum for researchers, both members and non-members.
