ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the influence of the digital revolution on our professional lives, in particular on the provision and practice of psychoanalytic couple psychotherapy. The psychoanalytic community is urged to respond proactively to the electronic revolution to ensure the continual survival and relevance of the profession in the rapidly advancing digital age. The chapter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of providing psychotherapy online versus the traditional analytic setting. It focuses on how transformational change occurs in couple therapy in which sessions are conducted in cyberspace. The chapter examines the importance of the setting within which psychotherapy is delivered over the internet and illustrates circumstances in which couple therapy was provided online.
