ABSTRACT

Sometimes life experiences bring the bodymind into a state where death seems close. Such experiences leave their trace in the body. Under stress, the old fear patterns of fight, or flight, or freeze may suddenly erupt, usurping the body. The kind and witnessing attention allows aliveness back in the tissues, allows the flames of life to grow stronger. To feel difference of power and impact of a "normal" arm change into "unbendable" arm with just a change of thinking and its resultant bodily changes of being is always stunning. When a person can feel safe enough with and welcomed enough by another human being, they can pay attention to aspects of their lives, their body, which had been frozen, forgotten or excluded from awareness. The role of the therapist as witness to what the client is exploring is very important. A living body is a body constantly in movement, however small.
