ABSTRACT
Christmas Eve 1983: In Jucuamn, near the Pacific Ocean in southeastern El Salvador, the guerrillas of the Farabundo Marti Front for National Liberation (FMLN) are throwing a party for the townspeople. There are music and dancing before the midnight Mass that will be celebrated in the parish church by Father Rogelio Ponseele, a Belgian priest who has spent many years in the country, the last three of them in the mountains. A guerrilla approaches a North American journalist and hands her a slip of paper.
