ABSTRACT

In Flanders Fields Museum was established to tell the harrowing story of the death and injury suffered by combatants in the Ypres salient during the First World War, and the destruction of the town itself. The museum adopted an immersive approach including the use of stories of individuals, both soldiers and civilians, that visitors could follow throughout the exhibition. The setting for the museum, the ancient Wool Hall, faithfully reconstructed after the War, provided an atmospheric setting. The museum adopted an approach that was committed to the pursuit of international peace.
