ABSTRACT

Media coverage of disability has received extensive scholarly attention in the developed countries, but in developing countries like Kenya, similar studies on disabilities are hard to find. News media are an important source of information for the public. Through agenda-setting and framing, news media raise awareness, spark a national debate on disability issues, and usher positive changes in the lives of disabled individuals who are still largely invisible in society. This chapter focuses on media coverage of disability in one of Kenya's prominent and elite newspaper the Daily Nation to shed light on disability coverage and its potential consequences.
