ABSTRACT

Assessment of human functioning is an essential component of the therapy process. The ability to quantitatively or qualitatively assess an aspect of the human self (whether its outwards expression of symptoms or internal state) is an important step in facilitation of the process of change. The goal of this chapter is to assess the domains of human ontological psychospiritual functioning as identified in the Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy (TIIP) model. A sample case illustration is used to present how these assessments can be of benefit in the therapeutic process. Although no single methodology to assess these domains exists, the author presents previously published assessments as well as qualitative elements to help assist in the assessment process.
