ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to throw some light on the social stratification by describing and analyzing the dynamics which, in spite of the dominant egalitarian ethos, have created and institutionalized them. However, in order to analyze stratification in the kibbutz, it is necessary to consider this structure as simultaneously belonging to three types of collectives. The discussion of the dynamics of stratification in the kibbutz includes three interrelated but distinct dimensions and at each level, problems are present which express themselves in social change. The dynamics of kibbutz stratification cannot be fully understood without turning to an additional aspect of the kibbutz's position in society. The three dimensions discussed in the delineate the main features of the kibbutz system of stratification; though these dimensions interact with each other, they constitute three distinct startpoints of the system's dynamics.
