ABSTRACT
This chapter brings together pertinent findings of a number of researchers, and aims to provide material which can be used as a basis for further discussion on the role of small business. Some of the studies quoted are historical and refer to what was happening in the 1960s; that was a time when small firms were neglected. If more notice of their problems had been taken then, we would be in a better position today.
