ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines programme management processes and procedures and discusses their significance and the relationships between them. Programme management processes define how a programme is directed, managed and undertaken. The programme management processes comprise the practices which should be followed by the programme sponsor, manager and team to ensure that the programme's business objectives are achieved. Programme management processes should help a team to achieve the programme's objectives. The design of these processes is dependent on the context within which the programme is undertaken. Management processes pull together various strands from the supporting and specialist processes to ensure the programme as a whole is adequately governed, defined, planned, under control and likely to meet its objectives. A programme comprises two types of component work: project-related work; and other work. The role of the programme sponsor is to ensure the programme is always viable in business terms.
