ABSTRACT

The success of every project and every programme depends in part in having the appropriate resources in place. Resource management includes making sure that the organization has enough resources available to conduct its business and to carry out its projects and programmes. In order to manage work and events against time, it is usually necessary to define target dates for various tasks and, from those dates, establish priorities. The appropriate tool for that since the 1950s has been some form of critical path analysis. Resource scheduling used to be carried out on adjustable wallboards. Good project management software will be able to allocate human resources to tasks according to their skill description and/or their functional department. Every programme and every significant project within the programme should be subjected to risk assessment. An original programme's business case should include one or more cash flow schedules, showing the predicted net cash position of the programme at regular intervals.
