ABSTRACT

Drawing on advances in foundational theory, research designs, and state-of-the-art technology, compelling evidence is emerging documenting the active presence of the departed and the Sacred in daily life. This chapter presents compelling examples of contemporary experimental evidence demonstrating how humans (in the physical/material) have the capability to communicate with conscious beings (in spirit/postmaterial). It focuses on findings from: (1) multi-blinded evidential mediumship research and (2) state-of-the-art technology employed for detecting the presence of, and communicating with (3) deceased persons (termed Hypothesized Spirit Participants, HSPs, or Postmaterial Persons, PMPs), and (4) higher Sacred beings (e.g. Hypothesized Angels). The experiments provide evidence for what William James calls “white crow” mediums and extends this reasoning to “white crow” spirits. Some implications for the evolution of science and religion and the emergence of evidence-based spirituality are considered.
