ABSTRACT

The League of Arab States (more generally known as the Arab League) is a voluntary association of independent Arab states, designed to strengthen the close ties linking them and to coordinate their policies and activities and direct them towards the common good of all the Arab countries. It was founded in March 1945 with the adoption of the Pact of the League of Arab States. The supreme organ of the League of Arab States, the Council consists of representatives of the member states, each of which has one vote, and a representative for Palestine. In March 2017 Arab League heads of state, meeting in Amman, Jordan, established a ministerial committee tasked with developing mechanisms to support member states that were hosting refugees. In September 2016 the Arab League Secretary-General and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, signed an agreement governing the development of future co-operation between the two organizations.
