ABSTRACT

The Conference, however, was unrepresentative in character; the two organisations responsible for the calling of the meeting were, numerically combined, less than half of the people own members. The resolutions were jockeyed by a few without any serious attempt being made to face the realities of the war and its obligations. There were between four and five hundred delegates present who were under twenty-six years of age. The viciousness of the whole business was manifest in cant and cynicism. The movers of the meeting expressed neither regret nor shame at their previous sinister attitude while munitions were short, while capitalistic sordidness stood as a menace to Government endeavour and military and naval necessities. No reference was made to the pillage and murder and disaster inflicted on the Russians by the Germans.
