ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the relationship of transborder air pollution to globalization. It discusses the environmental regimes that have been formed to address this issue. The chapter addresses the effects of international trade agreements on environmental commodities and discusses the successes and failures of the environmental regimes created by the international agreements dealing with air pollution. It offers suggestions for the improvement of future regimes so that they may better accomplish their goals and focuses on the countries affected by transborder air pollution, its connection to international trade agreements, and the regimes that have been created to alleviate the problem. The chapter discusses different pollutions such as air pollution, and acid deposition, looks at the World Trade Organization, followed by a discussion of the North American Free Trade Agreement and concludes with different views of the effects of international and free trade on the environment. It focuses on extensive research areas including Europe, Russia, the United States, Canada, and China.
