ABSTRACT

Young drivers are not a homogeneous group. Developing relevant driver training and other road safety countermeasures for them is, therefore, difficult. Interventions may become more effective if they are tailored to the needs of specific subgroups of young drivers who are at high risk of crash involvement. The concept of subgroups of ‘young problem drivers’ has been proposed but there is no agreed definition of such subgroups and, indeed, limited evidence supporting the existence of such groups.
