ABSTRACT

Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) indicates how one thinks about the discourse of excellence, results and accountability leading to the emergence of multiple discourses that legitimize certain policies, values and 'cosmovisions' influencing political and social power. This chapter focuses on PISA's social visibility and the resonance in social networks, and, more specifically, its 'mediatization' via its dissemination on Twitter. Twitter today has become 'one of the most powerful communication mechanisms in history', playing an influential role in social life. The chapter shows that although there was interest from countries all over the world, there were considerable geographic variations. Most of the countries taking part were from the Americas and Europe, especially Spain, whereas the representation of Asian and African countries was considerably lower. The most active stakeholders in this process were from the political and educational spheres.
