ABSTRACT

Nanci Adler is division head of holocaust and genocide studies at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, University of Amstserdam), senior researcher, and one of the editors of Memory and Narrative. She has worked with oral histories and memoirs of Gulag survivors since the late eighties. She is the author of Keeping Faith with the Party: Communist Believers Return from the Gulag (2012), The Gulag Survivor: Beyond the Soviet System (2002), Victims of Soviet Terror: The Story of the Memorial Movement (1993), and numerous scholarly articles on the Gulag, political rehabilitations, and the consequences of Stalinism. Her current research focuses on transitional justice and the legacy of Communism.
