ABSTRACT

One author suggests that “aftercare begins with the funeral” [2, p. 411 and meets the residual needs. He defines these residuals as “those needs that did not get met, those needs that surfaced as felt needs, and any needs arising from the grief caused by a continuing love for a person who is no longer present” [2, p. 411. In order to meet these residual needs, a successful program offers a variety of follow-up services for clients to encourage healthy emotional adjustment and to provide assistance in integrating to the reality of the loss and in rebuilding one’s life in a constructive and positive fashion.
