ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on cognitive ability, academic achievement, and educational attainment among internationally adopted children. The knowledge presented here is based mainly on research outcomes from studies carried out in the Nordic countries during the last ten years. One has to keep in mind that intercountry adoptees represent a very heterogeneous group, although they have all been adopted from a non-Western country in the early years of their lives. Background information is sparse, and often limited to country of origin, gender, and age at adoption.
