ABSTRACT

In recent years the airport industry has gone through a period of unparalleled change. A growing number of airports have been privatized and new global airport companies have emerged. At the same time airline deregulation and the evolution of new types of airline models, most notably low-cost carriers (LCCs), has altered the airport’s relationship with its airline customers and has increased the competitive pressures which airports face. Technology is also changing the way that passengers check-in at airports and is having a major impact on security and border control processes which have come under unprecedented scrutiny because of the modern day risks and threats which the air transport industry faces.
