ABSTRACT

As a way to introduce this volume of work, we seek to move beyond the simple questions that only offer us code-maps for narrowing the bandwidth of our thinking, experiencing and producing. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic, complex and creative ways of learning and living with the world, this chapter focuses our attention on reasons for alternative conceptions of research practices in early childhood education. We weave together the stories from across the early childhood field, looking for meaning-making experiences in wholes rather than fragmented and decontextualized ways of knowing that reduce us to the minutiae and distorted.
