ABSTRACT

This chapter shows an increased understanding of what influences safety leadership behaviour, as well as having an enhanced ability to contextualise safety leadership behaviours into your own workplace. Any safety leadership behaviours should be observable by others. To ensure clarity, a distinction will first be made with behaviour-based safety and safety leadership behaviours. The chapter addresses the vagueness of leaders defining their own safety leadership behaviour as 'walking the walk', some extensive research was undertaken with many general managers and project managers. Building a repertoire of safety leadership behaviours around vision setting, safety and engagement factors can amplify your safety leadership profile. Safety leadership exercised by executive boards may be etched into action via the values and safety vision that is set by the directors, which will then act as the running sheet for the workforce. The tangibility of safety leadership behaviours exercised by executives may be demonstrated by the exercising of corporate social responsibility.
