ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the relationship between two projects of fundamental importance to the international community. The first project is the eradication of global poverty by means of human development. The second is combatting climate change and its impacts. The chapter discusses the justification of human development as a moral aim as well as the moral requirement to mitigate climate change. It shows how these two morally mandatory projects might conflict, and explores the promise of the Paris Agreement in jointly pursuing both goals as a way to move forward in pursuit of both aims.
