ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Kevin Hull brings us into the painful worlds and his poignant clinical work with two of his young clients who are doubly challenged—by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and medical issues—and with whom he utilizes a variety of play therapy media and techniques in order to help them and their families to adapt. The reader is provided with an opportunity to grasp the magnitude of the challenges associated with being a child living with ASD and a co-occurring psychiatric, neurological, or medical condition; to understand the stress that is placed on the caregivers and the families of these children; and to witness the use of play therapy techniques that increase the coping skills of the child and family members.
