ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows the way ahead, building on expertise currently available in the industry. It also shows that the coming years promise to be exciting ones for all involved in outsourcing clinical development. It learns how both parties have risks, but that these are different and need to be mutually understood. For effective management, risks need to be clearly identified, managed through a variety of potential mechanisms and mitigated. Outsourcing gives their access to an agile operating model in the service sector, but only if people can learn how to work effectively with these companies, and thus, they were introduced to a recurrent theme throughout the book: Relationship Management. As the increasing influence of professional procurement experts continues to drive increasing professionalism in the outsourcing executive, this is an important message to remember.
