ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the nature and trends of drug trafficking, and the epidemiology of drug use in Namibia. Namibia is one of the developing countries in sub-Saharan Africa, specifically in the SADC region, faced with a growing problem of drug abuse and drug trafficking. Namibia is not a significant producer of cannabis nor a producer of other illicit drugs, or precursor chemicals as no drug production facilities have ever been discovered in the country over the past years. Although drug trafficking is a male-dominated illegal business in Namibia, Namibian women have slowly become involved in the trade as drug dealers are targeting women as couriers and drug mules.
