ABSTRACT
For Schopenhauer the principle of sufficient reason is a transcendental principle of human cognition. It cannot be proved but is rather the principle of proof. Moreover, since the requirement of proof is a requirement of rationality, the principle of sufficient reason is the general expression of any rational law of human cognition.
