ABSTRACT

This chapter examines three key processes related to human-environment relations in global fisheries. First, it considers the global shift of fish production from the global north to global south and the rise of aquaculture, arguably the most significant development in global fisheries in the last 40 years. Second, the chapter examines the global consumption of fish, which is best seen as having to navigate a tension between concerns around food security and increasing awareness of the risks that come with food consumption. The final section considers new governance arrangements including blue growth and sustainable fish production.
