ABSTRACT

France has long been a hub for international news and several media innovations happened in Paris. In 1835, Agence Havas, the precursor of Agence France Presse, was the first modern news agency. It defined an initial ‘model’ of news correspondence (Palmer, 2011). France was also where photojournalism developed. As a hub, it was appealing because of the international role played by France and the attractiveness of its capital in several fields, as well as with the discourse of national political leaders, who emphasized the crucial role of foreign journalists in shaping the image of the country abroad and in diplomacy.
