ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the Rules of Origin (RoO) with regard to Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to examine whether the RoO will facilitate RCEP members to become part of regional value chains or not. It also analyses some of the sectors traded within RCEP and evaluates the criteria of RoO that will facilitate a higher integration through a regional value chain among RCEP members. The chapter examines the trade structure of RCEP especially trade in raw material and intermediate products as well the intra-industry trade (IIT) and the domestic value-added content to examine the existence of international production networks that exists among RCEP members. It explains various RoO criteria that are applied in Association of Southeast Association (ASEAN) and ASEAN+1 agreements to explore the likely scenario of RCEP RoO. To understand the existence of supply chain linkages among RCEP members, an analysis of imports of raw materials and intermediate products was done.
