ABSTRACT
This essay examines performance as a method of inquiry by anchoring itself in embodiment. It shows how performance as a mode of inquiry calls upon the knowing, participatory, empathic, and political body and notes the challenges of embodiment in accomplishing its aims. The piece also suggests that different forms of performance (e.g., performing literary texts, performance ethnography, autobiographical performance) push the body toward different methodological concerns.
