ABSTRACT

In this chapter the author observes that a number of borders have been (re)produced by "Crossing Borders" conference itself. Linguistic border is one of our limitations is that we're giving the statement in English when one of our issues with the conference is that there has been no Arabic or Farsi translation or interpretation and apparently no invitation issued to migrants/refugees to participate in meaningful ways in the conference. Epistemic border is the Eurocentric, modern/colonial enlightenment ideology valorizing Western, heteropatriarchal rationalism marginalizes other ways of knowing or other knowledges. Methodological border is throughout the conference, borders were being produced, constructed by who gets the right to speak, rather than borders being occupied and defied collectively. In relevance border there are issues of life and death that require practical interventions and commitments that call upon us to devote time and energy.
