ABSTRACT

This book is a celebration. Where other texts might want to address a single issue, subject or field, the objective of this text was never to show one thing, except the vibrancy and diversity of scholars working in the field of transport history. Throughout the text, you will encounter the richness and diversity that makes up the field. From canals to Concorde, from freight to passengers, from screen to literature, this book will serve not only to demonstrate the cutting edge of research, but will emphasise one of the field’s major strengths; that it cannot really be defined as having one particular strand of research, of thought, of subject area, of evidence base or approach.
