ABSTRACT
The nomadic subject rests on Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari's distinction between the nomadic and the sedentary. The terms are not predicated on the actual movement of a subject but on its relationship to place. Brexit made it clear that fear, anxiety and nostalgia had won the day in Britain. It has always been obvious that the British imaginary space has never been fully aligned with that of the continent, but nevertheless for many people the referendum result came as a shock. When she designates it a laboratory for the nomadic subject, Braidotti stresses that the European Union has its origins in the defeat of fascism and Nazism in World War II and at its heart a movement towards antinationalism. The tragedy is that Brexit is likely to shut down opportunities for connections. This is a tragedy indeed, and however it plays out for Britain, it is one that the European Union needs to consider.
