ABSTRACT

Zadek notes that, in the last few years, many more examples of second-generation corporate responsibility have appeared. This also reflects a shift from intensive to extensive accountability, i.e. from accountability to a narrow group of stakeholders such as shareholders, to accountability to a broader set of stakeholders. This leads to the idea of a third-generation corporation, where ‘business becomes active in promoting and institutionalizing new governance frameworks that effectively secure civil market behaviour, globally’.
