ABSTRACT

In today’s work environment, high performance teams such as cockpit crews, firefighters, military command and control teams, and trauma surgical teams are routinely called on to perform complex and crucial tasks. Such teams must rely on effective teamwork and taskwork skills so that members can adapt to the changing and dynamic factors that drive high performance (e.g., rapidly evolving, ambiguous situations; complex, multicomponent decisions; information overload; auditory overload; command pressure; threat; adverse physical conditions; and swift interaction requirements; Orasanu & Salas, 1993). Taskwork skills consist of those skills necessary to complete individual aspects of team task demands.
