ABSTRACT

To qualify as a legal practitioner an individual must undertake a three-year degree programme, leading to the award of an LLB or Licence en droit. A fourth year of study leads to qualification as a maîtrise. Following the successful completion of a competitive examination, a candidate qualifies as a pupil lawyer and then spends two years with a law firm before taking a final competitive examination. The successful completion of this qualifies the individual to be sworn in as a legal practitioner.
